“A beautiful collection of images” (Ted Forbes, The Art of Photography)
In this unique photo zine, photographer Marc Pennartz pays tribute to silence and solitude in a style that reminds of the pictorialist era.
“In the spring of 2021, I went to a park in Antwerp for some black and white photos. I wanted to see if I could give those images a dreamy, unreal effect to emphasize the silence and solitude that I associate with nature. Call it painting with light, somewhat in the style of the pictorialists.
In my street photography I often use textures to achieve this, like glass, plastic or textile. Because you don’t normally find such materials in nature, I put a filter on my lens that I had coated with olive oil. Since that day I regularly seek out urban and suburban green space. I also apply multiple exposures and intentional camera movement and play with contrast, shutter speed, manual focus and a sprinkle of sepia to get what I want.
In the end, I hoped for images that reflected something timeless or perhaps ancient. Something that transcends the mundane. Whether that works out? Ultimately, the viewer has to decide what he or she gets out of a photograph.”
Green is published in a limited edition of 100 copies. Each copy ordered through this website is signed by the photographer.
